Joseph Nicoletti was born in Italy. He moved to the States as a young boy and did his undergraduate work at Queens College, NY.  He earned his MFA at Yale University. At Yale he served as a studio assistant to William Bailey. His work has a Mediterranean soul, one that honors sensual beauty and deftness of stroke with a warm palette of color. Joseph Nicoletti first came to Maine to teach at Bowdoin College.  He spent 20 plus years as a senior-ranking faculty member of the Department of Art and Visual Culture at Bates College.  He retired from teaching in 2014. Joseph also served as the Director of summer sessions at the International School for Painting, Drawing, and Sculpture in Umbria, Italy.

Joseph Nicoletti is represented in Maine by Greenhut Galleries.
