Intrigued by varying elements in the landscape, Margaret’s paintings are developed by removing paint as much as by applying it. Through the give and take of paint, an image that was inspired by a specific place transforms into a sense of place. This approach yields a rich and complex surface with deceptively complex colors. Her most recent works are dreamy landscapes derived from places she has visited.  They are charged with emotion and mood.

Margaret has a background in nursing. In 1993 she earned her BFA with a concentration in painting at Maine College of Art in Portland.

Margaret Lawrence is represented in Maine by Greenhut Galleries.
