As a young child, William Irvine was captivated by the magic of painting. The paintings of color and shape through which one entered the soul of the artist: Van Gogh’s passion, Fra Angelico’s spiritual calm, Gauguin’s sensuality, Picasso’s lust for life. It was those explorations that led him at an early age to begin painting.
He grew up in Troon, Scotland a small town on the Atlantic coast. The sound of gulls and surf and boats worked their way into his mythology. He graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in drawing and painting. After graduation, he moved to London, exhibiting in several galleries. It was in London that he met a woman he eventually married and moved to Maine.
His daily routine is an early walk by the sea with his dog,Tam, a Shetland Sheepdog. Then into his studio to wrestle with the angels and the hope that what he creates will lead viewers to experience that sense of wonder which has never left him..
